(At Shindai Aikikai Dojo)

In this class will cover some of the fundamentals of our training including dojo/sword etiquette, foot stance, cutting patterns, and basic techniques. After eight weeks of learning the fundamentals, students will advance to the intermediate class. Here, they will learn how to handle an iaito (blunt training sword) along with learning the Toyama Ryu kata (form) and cutting techniques. Students will need a white gi top, black hakama, an iai obi, and an iaito (Iaito must be inspected by Sensei for safety and approval). After six months of intermediate classes, and with Sensei's approval, students can move up to the advance classes. Here, they will learn various advance cutting techniques and also be able to cut tatami (Japanese straw mats). With that, all students should have their own shinken (live cutting sword) for training and class use. Shinken must also be approved by Sensei before use in class.
